The Illinois Child Labor Law requires employers to secure and keep on file Employment Certificates (work permits) for children under 16 years of age.
The Regional Superintendent of Schools acts as an issuing officer for the Department of Labor.
The permits are issued after:
1) the issuing officer is satisfied that the employment will serve the best interest of the minor;
2) upon application in person of the minor desiring employment accompanied by the parent, guardian, or custodian of the minor; and
3) after the other requirements of the Law have been met.
